Got off to a pretty good start for 2006. I was able to sell the Triumph to a very nice fellow who came down from Seattle to look it over. We drove to the field where I plan to do the driving exercises for the classes this year. Dom had a chance to test drive the Tiger and I had an opportunity to see how well this field will work for teaching the S/TEP classes. We were both pleased with the results.
The money I got from the Tiger as well as the funds raised by my Garage Sale (thank each and everyone of you for your support) allowed me to purchase two bikes in January, a 2001 KLR 650 and a 1997 Suzuki Bandit 600, both with low miles and in great shape!
The first weekend in February I pulled the tub off an old Ural I had in the garage and loaded the sidecar chassis in the truck. I drove it over to Joel's to get some mounts and perhaps a new body fabricated for it. We set it next to Joel's KLR to get an idea where we need the mounts to go
Joel's KLR has taken a righteous beating and still keeps coming back for more. One of the reasons I chose KLRs for the Adventure Sidecar fleet is because I was so impressed by Joel's machine. These things are rugged, go anywhere , do anything bikes!
Next to Joel's bike you can see the subframe I used to mount a Ural chassis to my Speed Triple. We will probably make something similar for the KLR and perhaps for the Bandit as well...
We took a little break and hiked a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, near Joel's shop. It was cool and damp in the deep woods. Patches of snow and the raging streams overflowing their banks bore witness to the recent storms. It was calm and restful, muted browns and vibrant greens all soft and shadowy under the trees...
