Killer Ride July1,2006
Around 9am, Saturday morning the crew showed up at the gates. Jamie, Jack and Steve all rolled in about the same time.
We got acquainted and had a short discussion of possible routes before heading up the canyon.
At the bottom of the old cutoff road, just past the steel bridge, we stopped and the solo bikes aired down. Then we dived into the brush and up the abandoned road grade.
I am hoping
Jack's video of the crew riding up the stream bed turned out...
Even though it was a hot, dry July day, the old road had several water crossing
and small waterfalls flanked part of the route...
The rocks and brush gave us more trouble than the berms at
the top of the grade did...
We paused at the top of the road to ziptie the plastic
back on one of the Killers.
Steve
had to help me with a wardrobe malfunction before we could continue..
The next leg was an almost invisible ATV trail which
linked us back to another abandoned road, this one densely over grown with
manzanita
It was a little tight for the sidecar, but a lot of fun. I
did have to use the saw to cut myself free from a particularly aggressive bit of
brush before we could continue. It was a challenging, fun section which dropped
us back onto 1710 at the top of Neal Creek Canyon.
We could see Mt.Hood, Mt.St.Helens, Mt.Rainier and Mt.
Adams.
I got a little too rambunctious out on the open road and
suffered a suspension "failure"...
Jamie ran back to Odell for a trailer and we hauled the
black bike home.
I
exchanged it for the blue bike and we continued our ride. This is Steve
following me down Huskey Road to Wilson...
We had been heading for Ketchum Road when I broke down. Instead we crossed over to Mosier and picked up Ketchum at the other end, heading West...
Mt.
Hood looms ahead...
...and
behind us, across Lubbing Flats, we could see Mt. Adams.
We finished up late afternoon, dirty but happy after a good ride!
