Flower and Mushroom Forays

The morels have been coming on strong; it's been a good season this year. We started finding the early morels, or Verpa in April. Many folks collect these, but I don't, having known some people who have had mild poisoning from them. The true morels (Morchella) started showing up in May and have been plentiful the whole month.

We went up the hill with our neighbors, the Kaufmans, in pursuit of the elusive morel...

We found an abundance of wildflowers

Aleris tried to key out this agaric with the field guide. I believe it was some kind of Russula...

Amy happily skipped along the forest trail...

...and stumbled into a patch of morels

...back home we cleaned the mushrooms and divvied up our treasure.
