Adventure Sidecar, LLC will be offering S/TEP classes in Hood River, Oregon, October 8-9,2005.

S/TEP (the Sidecar/Trike Education Program) is a nationally recognized training program for those interested in learning about safely piloting a sidecar or a trike on the street. The basic program is designed to to provide the rider with knowledge, confidence and driving skills practiced in a safe controlled environment.

This 16 hour course provides classroom instruction on riding, protective gear, defensive driving, accident avoidance techniques and a comprehensive course handbook. IMWA will provide Ural Tourist sidecars for use during the training course. A full 8 hours of the program will be practical skills demonstrations and an opportunity to practice the driving lessons on a protected off street range.

     

    To attend the course, you must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid driver's license. You do not need prior motorcycle experience. The 16 hour course includes instruction on basic motorcycle operations and knowledge.

COME PREPARED

Helmet: You must have a legal, DOT approved helmet. Novelty or protest helmets will not be allowed. If you need a loaner helmet please contact us in advance.

Eye Protection: Face shield, goggles or glasses are required.

Protective Clothing Covering Arms and Legs: You must wear long-sleeved shirt or jacket and long pants. Have rain gear and/or sunscreen depending on the weather.

Foot and Hand Wear: You must wear protective boots or shoes that cover the ankle and full fingered gloves. You must be able to grip and move your fingers comfortably in the gloves to perform the exercises safely.

Driver's License: You must bring a valid driver's license to take this class. We are required to check and to record the license # for our insurance.

    YOU MAY DO THE PROGRAM USING YOUR OWN SIDECAR OR TRIKE . If you you choose to do so, your vehicle must be in safe operating condition, street legal, licensed and insured. You must bring proof of insurance if you intend to use your own sidecar or trike. Be aware that the course work will be done on a grass parking lot.

Pre-Registration Required

The S/TEP class is $190 through the Hood River Community Education program. Enrollment is limited to 12 students. Because of insurance requirements, this two day course of instruction requires pre-registration and prepayment.  A $40 discount is available if you send in a business card from a current Ural dealer with your payment. Attendance & Cancellation Policy:  Please arrive on time for all sessions. Late arrivals may lose their tuition fee. Refunds will be issued only for for cancellations made at least 6 business days prior to the class date. If you cancel out of the course fewer than 6 business days prior to the class you will forfeit the entire tuition fee. You must attend all class sessions and complete all exercises and obtain a satisfactory score on both the written and riding evaluations to obtain a completion card.

About the Instructors

    All S/TEP classes at Adventure Sidecar are taught by experienced, certified sidecar instructors. The lead instructor for Adventure Sidecar is Vernon Wade. Vernon is certified by Evergreen Safety Council as a S/TEP instructor and has been riding sidecars for over fifteen years. He rides his sidecar daily and regularly campaigns sidecars in dual sport events throughout the Pacific Northwest.

 

            We plan to offer an expanded schedule of classes in 2006, and hope to eventually be able to offer a combination of training & guided tours through the Pacific Northwest sometime in the future.  (Check out the "Trips" page to explore some of the possible tours).
