Vernon WadeThere are lots of cooks out there who actually know what they are doing. I pretty much taught myself to cook, out of necessity. I haven’t a clue most of the time, but I do love to eat.

I have made everything posted here. If I can do it, you certainly can. Someday, if there is enough interest, I will gather all these recipes into a cookbook. In the meantime, in the spirit of dashes, dollops and three-fingered pinches, I present them here for you to try. Let me know what you think.

I don’t care for vodka, so never acquired a taste for Moscow Mules. Bourbon, however, is an entirely different story. In camp or on the back porch, the Kentucky Mule is sure to refresh. Go ahead, have another. You deserve it.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz bourbon-I prefer Bulleit or Makers Mark. Rye will do as well.
  • 8 oz Ginger beer. I prefer Fever-Tree. Cock ‘n Bull is also good, but a little spicier.
  • 1 wedge of lime and/or a generous splash of lime juice
  • ice

In a metal camp mug combine 1 oz bourbon with 8 oz ginger beer. Add a generous splash of lime juice or squeeze a wedge of lime into the drink and drop it in. Or use juice and a wedge of lime – it’s your drink. Give it a stir and add ice to bring the liquid up to the rim of the cup. Enjoy!
