Vernon WadeThere are lots of cooks out there who actually know what they are doing. I pretty much taught myself to cook, out of necessity. I haven’t a clue most of the time, but I do love to eat.

I have made everything posted here. If I can do it, you certainly can. Someday, if there is enough interest, I will gather all these recipes into a cookbook. In the meantime, in the spirit of dashes, dollops and three-fingered pinches, I present them here for you to try. Let me know what you think.

The Bombardier is a drink inspired by the early days of military aviation, when the British airforce was still part of the Royal Navy. Pilots and their crew were issued a daily tot of rum, just like the sailors were. To stave off the cold on long sorties over No Man’s Land in their stick and fabric airplanes, they would bring a thermos of tea with them, often fortified with their issue of rum.

Ingredients

Bombardier
  • ¾ cup scalding hot black tea
  • a splash of dark rum
  • a splash of Irish cream

Combine liquids and do your duty, for Queen and Country!
