Good Afternoon

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

9/6/26 Noonish 65F (18.3C) Foggy with the rain tapering off. Several days of thunder and rain have soaked the ground and broken the summer drought.

Amy, Walter and I hopped in the truck and headed to Chanty Camp for the first foray of the rainy season.

We found chanterelles in clusters of three and four almost immediately. Returning to camp to empty our bags, we met Mike, just arriving. He had spotted a patch from his car as he drove in, so he already had a bag full. We set off once more and met with similar success.

Back at the truck once more, we discovered Jason had shown up. I put some tea on to boil, using a gas burner since the forest service has not yet rescinded the campfire ban. We had some lunch and drank some tea while cleaning dirt and debris from our haul.

We broke camp at 5:00. It was a good afternoon.
