9/9/25 6:30 60F (15.5C) Calm with broken clouds.
It’s not raining, but quite wet from last night’s downpour. A faint riffle of breeze sends a brief torrent of droplets raining down from the leaves.
Coming back from town yesterday afternoon, I saw a tendril of blue smoke rising from somewhere up the canyon, behind our house. It quickly turned into a thick, white column.
I phoned the sheriff’s office and was told they already had units on scene. A few minutes later, a fire engine roared by.
3 Firebosses were were deployed; they flew in formation all afternoon, passing over the house and continuing another mile or so up the canyon to dump their water on the flames before looping back to the Columbia to refill.
By dinnertime they announced the fire was in mop-up. A thunder storm moved in around sundown, dropping heavy rain. It was still raining when I went to bed.
Yesterday was exciting. I wonder what today will bring?
