Book Club

The Writer, Vernon Wade

Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

Book club was at mom’s  house  tonight,  so Andy brought mom up here for dinner while our wives were otherwise occupied.

I spent the day scouring the house and cooking.

We had pork loin and cornbread.  Andy brought a salad, wine and beer.  After dinner we had drinks, then apple pie and ice cream for desert.

I marinated the pork loin in buttermilk and date molasses with a lobster mushroom rub.

It roasted in a dutch oven for two and one half hours.

I added a splash of cider, as well as some onion, garlic, parsnips, apples, and sprigs of rosemary and sage at the end,and set the oven with cornbread on top to cook for the last forty five minutes. It seemed to work.

They’ve gone home now. Amy isn’t back yet.

The dishes are done. Walter is snoring. I’m having a whiskey and soda.

Good night.
