FLEXTAIL Tiny Pump x 2024

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

Andy bought one of these little pumps for his Thermarest pad a while ago. I laughed at him for buying another unnecessary gadget. Until I got a huge self-inflating sleep pad from Sportsman’s Guide. It is supposed to be self-inflating and it kinda is, but deflating it enough to get it back in the bag is almost impossible to do by hand. With this little pump inflating it is a breeze and deflating it to pack is at least manageable. I ended up buying one for myself. A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

inflating Nemo air mttress

To use the FLEXTAIL Tiny Pump x 2024 for inflation attach to your mattress or sleep pad with the appropriate nozzles, using the small spigot on the side of the pump and press the on button.

deflating Thermarest

To use the Tiny Pump for deflation attach the appropriate adapter nozzle to the large spigot on the bottom of the pump. In my opinion, this is where the FLEXTAIL earns its keep. It will suck that sleeping pad flat in no time, making it a cinch to roll it up and pack.

Military Surplus THermarest

Just as an aside, if you are tempted by the smoking deals on military surplus Thermarest sleep pads, just don’t.
I think I paid $25 for mine. It came without a stuff sack or a patch kit, but it did come with a leak. Reading reviews suggest this is pretty common. I patched it but discovered it is unnecessarily long, very narrow, and so thin as to be useless weight. Not worth the money.
