Good Afternoon

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

8/11/26 The wind being favorable and the wildfire smoke having abated, Walter, Mike and I decided to spend the day by a stream in the woods.

We arrived late morning and found we had the place to ourselves.

Except for Cocaine Bear.

Quickly retrieving our bear guns, we dispatched the menace, mowing down a stand of vine maple in the process.

The smoke cleared as the last echoes of gunfire faded, revealing the bullet riddle ursine was no longer a threat. We policed our brass and stowed our firearms.

Peace and tranquility  returned to the glade. We sat down to a picnic lunch.

After our meal, we went for a short walk. We crossed the creek on a log bridge and ranged along game trails through the brush and trees. Eventually we became fatigued and returned to camp.

The temperature was perfect. We sat in the shade. Before long, lulled by the babbling brook, the three of us had fallen fast asleep.

When we awoke we stretched, packed our gear into the truck and headed home.

A good time was had by all.
