The world fills him with wonder. When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

The downpour stopped sometime after I went to bed last night.
The ashes inside the lodge were still warm this morning and I was able to easily rekindle the fire.
The pumpkin rings didn’t get wet and continue to dry in the smoke.
The fire pops and crackles. Wood smoke perfumes the air.
Walter remains vigilant. Reassured, I drink my tea.
