The world fills him with wonder. When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

Last night’s rain left the patches of bare earth damp and the deck still speckled with wet, but the sky overhead is a brilliant blue. The waning crescent moon floats behind the maple like a daytime ghost. I inhale the steam rising from my cardamom tea and relax into the morning.
