The world fills him with wonder. When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

Ducks rise from the pond beyond the fence. I hear their wings beat the still air; their quacking fades as they circle east and disappear.
I had expected overcast with light rain, perhaps snow.
It is cold but the sky is clear, deep blue tinged with violet.
The rain, and perhaps snow, will come later, no doubt.
But for now, it is a beautiful dawn.
