Good Morning

The Writer, Vernon Wade

Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

2/7/26 7:00 41F (5.0C) Calm, overcast , dry. It continues to be unseasonably warm.

Last night Jody, Dave, Amy and I went to Portland where we met Andrea and Josh and enjoyed the Winter Festival of Lights. It was beautiful and surreal.  An all ages rave in downtown Portland. This was just a stoner dream in the seventies; if only Kesey were alive to see it.

We stopped at Edgefield for a late dinner  before returning to Hood River.

We got home around midnight.  I don’t feel like I got enough sleep,  but I am up now.

It is a soft, grey morning. Birds are twittering.

Walter has started his round, barking an occasional challenge as he marches the fence line.

A flock of crows rises noisily from  its roost and flies away.

My tea is hot and bitter. I savor each sip.

Good morning.
