Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder. When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

Calm and clear with some haze around the edges.

It is pleasantly cool.

I can smell the faint perfume of woodsmoke.

Yesterday, it smelled like BBQ and the haze was so thick I couldn’t see the mountains.

It was hot and muggy. A rain squall, quick and violent, moved through in the evening. It did not dissipate the heat but left us hot and steamy after it rumbled past.

Now it is cool, the air soothing, not abrasive.

The birds are chirping. I can smell the fresh, green scent of the pumpkin vines as they wrap their tendrils around the hot tub.
