Good Morning

The Writer, Vernon Wade

Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

Cloudy with patches of blue. No wind on the ground.

The birds chatter in subdued trills and chirps.

The Grasshopper fire remains at 76% containment and just under 94,000 acres. There is a fire in Wishram, two near Estacada and one somewhere near Cougar Rock, but nothing nearby.

The corn is done. The tomatoes are producing and still flowering, their vines wander unrestrained.

The beans have disappeared.

My pumpkins are out of control. Huge globes in various stages of ripeness anchor long, sprawling vines. The older leaves are flocked with some sort of white smut, but new tendrils reach out, fresh and green, exploring the yard and crawling across the deck, dotted with huge, yellow blossoms.

August is winding down, but Summer still lingers.

Good morning.
