Good Morning

The Writer, Vernon Wade

Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

The moon, three quarters full, was waxing bright last night, but now it’s gone to bed, leaving only starlight to fill the dark and windless void in the wee hours of morn.

As beautiful as it is, I find myself beset with first world irritations.

There seems  an unusual amount of early traffic with the accompanying lights and noise. I know they need to go to work and I don’t, but I find it difficult to be charitable.

The neighbor’s paranoid light glares at me.

When I position myself in a shadow, the heat pump blows cold air across  my head.

And there is the constant hum of the hot tub.  I can turn the circulation pumps off, but then the control panel illuminates, backlighting the rising steam and obscuring the stars.

The heat pump kicks off. A night bird calls softly;  the stars above twinkle and beam.

Walter rests quietly beside me on the deck.

My unreasonable disgruntlement evaporates.

I sip my tea, reasonably content once more.

Good morning.
