Good Morning

The Writer, Vernon Wade

Vernon Wade is a poet, author and freelancer. He has been published in The Gorge Literary Journal, Dualsport Rider Magazine, Hack’d Magazine, The Sidecarist, ROB Magazine and The Hood River News.

The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

It is a cool, damp morning. No rain, but gray with clouds and clammy.

I gathered some pine needles  and small branches to place on the coals in the Weber inside the lodge. It took half an hour to smolder into flames. Now it is heating up the tipi, chasing the dampness from the drying pumpkin rings. A light breeze blows the smoke away to the north.

Nearby, a covey of quail scratch through the litter and fallen leaves, looking for breakfast.

I slept late this morning.  Amy was already up when I crawled out of bed. She’s in her easy chair, playing solitaire on her laptop.

My tea is finished.  I should go inside and get dressed.

In a minute.

Good morning.
