8/14/25 4:30 62f (16.6c) Clear and still. The moon, brilliant white and waning gibbous, puts to rest any hope of seeing meteors. Two planets hover over the east ridge, shining brightly. The thunder of crickets fades around 5:00 replaced by amplified silence; I clearly hear traffic on the interstate, eight miles away. Day begins to glow, not here yet, its advance announced by the rooster. Dogs up and down the canyon begin a lively discussion, enticing Walter to join in. Birds begin to chirp, tentatively at first. Morning wakes.
