Lava Creek Scout

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

Walter and I went out in the woods,  looking for a new camp site. We scouted along the canyon above Lava Creek.

I wanted to walk in from Lost Creek Road, but someone was already parked there, so we went in on a little spur road and bushwacked back to the canyon.

We followed the ridge above the canyon upstream until we found a small tributary that spilled into Lava Creek.

The water here is accessible and it looks like it might flow year round. It is pretty brushy, but flat – I could camp here, but it is a bit of a hike. I want to see if it is easier coming in from the north, but that will have to wait for another day. We went a little further until the stream forked again.

I was getting thirsty, so we went back to the bike and had a picnic  before heading home.
