The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

Cliff and Donovan came over yesterday and helped me set up a throwing axe target in the back yard.

Andy had loaded a huge Ponderosa round in the bed of my truck. We took down a set of poles that was in the way and backed the truck in as close as we could before sliding it out, landing on edge on the ground. The three of us rolled it up a slight hill and leaned it against a large chunk of cottonwood.

Naturally, we had to try it out, tossing a variety of tomahawks and knives in the general direction of the target. Cliff was the undisputed champion. Me, I’m gonna need some practice.
