Clear, blue and dim.
A light breeze rattles the oak leaves, swaying the willows and birch.
Night begins to retreat from the first incursions of dawn.
Jupiter and Mars shine in the south, still accompanied by a few flickering stars.
A car passes, headlights briefly flashing through the trees.
Something on the other side of the oaks has attracted Walter’s attention and he rushes, barking, to ward off the interloper.
I catch the scent of woodsmoke wafting from the lodge, both a warm memory and a reassuring promise.
My tea provides me similar comfort.
It is a good morning.
