Good Afternoon

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

5/22/25 3:30 54f (12.2c) Breezy and fair. Mike and I spent the afternoon ranging across the ridge between Mosier and my house, looking for morels. We didn’t find any, even where we have found them before. The soil was damp and the terrain looked promising, but no joy. We found Amanitas in abundance,  and lots of wildflowers. Walking up a spur road connecting Huskey Road with Fir Mountain we flushed a small, brown bear. It stared at us for a moment before running into the brush but I was too slow to get a picture. I did get some photos of slower moving organisms.
