Good Afternoon

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

It’s been unseasonably warm and very wet this past week so I picked up Mike and we went mushroom huntin

It was extremely wet.

There was a wide variety of mushrooms including this very pretty cluster of Russula.

There were a number of Lobster Mushrooms, but they were all too far gone to collect.

Lactarius deliciosus,

I found a number of nice Lactarius. I probably should of collected some. They were in better shape than most of the chanterelles I found.

Walter looking for more chanterelles.

Many of the chanterelles were soggy and soft. We found a few that had just come up and were still firm. We also found a lot of stumps. Our secret patch is no longer secret.

It started getting dark. It was still raining and getting foggy so we called it a day and headed home.

This was the result of my afternoon of foraging. I think Mike found about the same. Slim pickings, but a day in the woods is never wasted.
