Good Afternoon

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

8/29/25 85f (29.4c) 3:00 Clear sky with a  few mosquitoes.

Mike, Walter and I made an excursion into the woods to escape the heat and look for mushrooms. It felt a good ten degrees cooler in the forest.

It’s been hot and dry, but a rain squall had moved through a couple of days ago. We hoped there had been enough moisture to coax some chanterelles or lobsters through the duff.

Alas, we were disappointed.  We only found seven or eight small specimens.

I forgot the limes for our cocktails. Fortunately,  I  was able to forage a handful of red huckleberries, which muddled with bourbon and ginger beer  provided the tartness to flavor a very passable Kentucky Mule.
