The world fills him with wonder.  When he looks at the sky he is lifted into flights of fancy, when he stares at the earth he is drawn beneath its surface. He is delighted to find the macrocosm and the microcosm equally mesmerizing.

6/28/26 5:30 Cool and wet.

It rained hard last night, finally tapering off this morning as we pack up to go home.

Buttered cornbread with milk and molasses for breakfast.  The molasses poured slowly in the Junuary chill and I had to use the ax to cut the butter.

It was too wet for my flintlock.  I only got off one shot this weekend. The rain kept fouling my prime.

Stitcher was kind enough to accompany me on the hawk and knife trail this morning, so I was able to turn in my card for that. I think I  scored a 15 or 16. Relatively low, but a personal best.

Remarkable, considering my vision was blurry this morning.  So much so that I grabbed my camp hatchet instead of the tomahawk  and didn’t even notice until after I  finished the trail!

Looking forward to getting home to a hot shower and a long soak in the tub.

Good morning.
