Mardingtop 25L Backpack M6347A

The Adventurer, Vernon Wade

Vernon was born in the Pacific Northwest and still lives in the shadow of Mt. Hood, near the small town where he grew up. Vernon has spent decades wandering the hills, hunting mushrooms, camping and riding motorcycles into the remotest nooks and crannies to be found in the region.

For years my EDC was a Wolfman tankbag. When I was still working, I kept it filled with maps and tools and fuses for my moto, emergency kit, knife, a roll of T.P. and my lunch.  I could leave straight from work for the woods when the notion took me. When that bag wore out, I bought a Shangri-La slingbag. It served the purpose, but was uncomfortable to carry.
I bought this Mardingtop to replace the slingbag. At less than $45, I had high hopes but low expectations, but so far I am well pleased. Construction and materials seem to be good, it is comfortable and 25 liters is a good size for a daypack, with room for the EDC kit and space left over for a sweater or some food.
The shoulder straps are well padded and comfortable. There is a sternum strap and waist belt but they are not padded.

There is a hydration port under the top grab handle with elastic bands on the shoulder straps to retain a hydration tube. I have added a Maxpedition Mini Pocket Organizer to each shoulder strap to carry my compass and a first aid kit. The shoulder straps are well padded and comfortable. My first aid kit i

My first aid kit includes antibiotic and anti-fungal ointments, chapstick, CPR mask, some dressings, cloth tape, and medicines in labeled plastic pouches. The pouch on the other strap has my compass and emergency whistle.

The main compartment

The main compartment has two zippered net pockets, two small elastic pockets for bottles and one large, flat elastic pocket for a laptop or hydration bladder. There is a port at the top for a hydration tube.

Mardingtop 25L Backpack M6347A Elastic side-pockets on each side are large enough to hold a 32 oz Nalgene Bottle nested in a Suguning 750mL bush pot. The sides have two compression straps each and some molle strips so it would be easy to attach more gear securely.

There are three pockets on the front of the pack

There are three pockets on the front of the pack. The bottom two have molle panels and the top pocket has an elastic strap and velcro patch. I added a velcro reflective strip to mine.
Also pictured, a Sierra Cup, some extra carabiners, and a 32 oz Nalgene Bottle which nests in a Suguning 750mL bush pot I keep in the side-pocket of the pack.

The bottom pocket also holds a spoon and fork, a flask of whiskey and two tin shotglasses.

I keep a zippered Maxpedition pouch with tea, oatmeal, and snackage in the bottom front pocket The bottom pocket also holds a spoon and fork, a flask of whiskey and two tin shot-glasses.

The middle front pocket

Inside the middle front pocket I keep a Maxpeditions zippered pouch with T.P., hand sanitizer, and a Bic lighter, all wrapped in plastic. I keep some Deet secured by the elastic strap at the back of the pocket.

The top pocket is stuffed! There are two Maxpedition Micro Pocket organizers and another nylon pouch from Pock-Its.

I used the space in the top pocket for two Maxpedition Micro Pocket organizers and a red, nylon pouch from Pock-Its. These pouches hold cordage and tinder; the red pouch has knives, a pressure gauge and a magnesium firestarter. I can easily remove the red pouch if I need to use this pack as a carry-on.

Behind the pouches in the top pocket

There are elastic straps inside the top pocke which I use to hold a rechargeable LED flashlight, ferro rod, candles, and a couple of Bic lighters.
